NAYDENE BOWDER RECEIVES
ESTEEMED FACULTY AWARD

On Thursday, May 23, 2013 Newcastle native Naydene Bowder was presented with the 2013 Carol Eaton Elowe Award for her many years of distinguished service as a piano instructor at the Portland Conservatory of Music (PCM). The award was presented by PCM Board President Stephen Hessert, PCM Executive Director Stephen Shiman, and PCM Co-Founders Carol Eaton Elowe and Hillary Egan at the annual PCM Spring Serenade. Her dedication to PCM and the achievement of its students is extraordinary: she has enriching the lives of hundreds of students of all ages and abilities during her nearly 18-year tenure at the school. Over the years her students have participated in many concerts and competitions and have won many awards because of the outstanding quality of her teaching. What stands out most is her dedication to the success of each of her students through her personal support beyond private lessons to ensure that music becomes an essential part of their lives.

Naydene attended the Julliard School and has completed graduate studies at Hartt College, the Manhattan School of Music, and Columbia. She has studied piano with Adele Marcus, Jacob Lateiner, and Ocy Downs; theory with Vincent Persichetti; harpsichord with Joseph Payne; and chamber music with Ivan Galamian, Leonard Rose, Louis Persinger, and Bernard Greenhouse. Ms. Bowder has had appeared as both soloist and chamber musician throughout New England. She is currently on the faculty at Bowdoin College and the Portland Conservatory of Music. From June 21-23, Naydene will be teaching advanced students from around the world at the 10th Annual International Piano Festival at PCM.
