Musikgarten® Classes
(ages newborn-5)
Come play in our Musikgarten! Your child
will be inspired by and appreciate the magic of music and will gain the spectrum of skills necessary to be
successful in instrumental lessons or other musical pursuits. Children at all levels of development are welcome
to participate in our classes. Please call or email if you have questions about which class is best for your child.
The outstanding Musikgarten curriculum was chosen for classes at PCM because its approach to music education is fun for children, parents and teachers, and as a result of its developmentally appropriate, sequential pathway to music education, children can become independent, thinking, musicians. Your instructor, Tammis Donovan, has been a licensed and certified Musikgarten educator since 2003. Learn more about Musikgarten at www.musikgarten.org.
Classes will be ongoing and follow a 16-week semester schedule and will observe PCM’s holiday and vacation schedule. There will be two 8-week sessions in the Fall Semester, two 8-week sessions in the Spring Semester, and additional classes during the summer months. You may join at any time during the year. There is additional cost of required home materials at the beginning of each semester ($32-$40, depending on the class) in addition to the class tuition, and registration fee. Home materials are distributed twice per year—at the beginning of the fall semester and the beginning of the spring semester.
Our very first Fall session, for Pixies, Sprites, and Elves, will begin on October 13, 2012, and it will be a 4-week session.

Pixies (Family Music for Babies) (newborn-16 months)

Designed for parents and their babies to take together, these weekly classes help you learn how to play musically with your baby. Each class features bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, and other fun activities for the two of you. Increases your baby’s curiosity about music, develops listening skills and a sense of beat, establishes a foundation for singing and musical thought, helps you form a closer bond with your baby, gives you and your baby a chance to interact with other parents and babies.
When you go home, you can continue the fun with a superb CD recorded by a fine children’s choir and outstanding instrumentalists. Using your parent guidebook along with rhythm sticks, a rattle, and a colorful scarf, it will give you both hours of enjoyment.
Sprites (Family Music for Toddlers) (1-3 years)

These weekly classes are action-filled for toddlers - full of energy, often on the move, always exploring and learning - and their parents. Together you’ll sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments, all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement through four wonder-filled semesters. Each lesson features movement activities for coordination, body awareness and control, exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks, jingles, rattles, drums, and resonator bars.
Additionally, you’ll receive a wonderful CD, a parent activity book, and an instrument or scarf to use at home for more fun time together.
Elves (Family Music for Pre-schoolers) (3-5 years)

We'll be building your child's attention skills and encouraging creativity and self-expression in this class. Children and parents will experience the wonder of seasons through singing, dancing, listening, storytelling, dramatic play, rhythm and beat development, vocal play, and instrument exploration. We know that children learn best while moving, playing, and exploring. The last few minutes of each class are reserved for exploring classroom instruments with your child or reading books in the Musikgarten library. We have books about music, rhyming books and books you can sing! This is a great class for your creative preschooler, and if your child attends preschool, this class will build not only musical but also important social and motor skills necessary for a successful preschool experience.
Fun family packets including wonderful music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process.
